Since having a baby, The Nerd and I have really had to work on keeping the romance alive in our relationship. Like all new parents, we have had to make keeping the spark in our marriage a priority.

When we took our family vacation to Paris, there really wasn’t a chance for us to have some time alone together in the most romantic city in the world. I’ve wanted to do something special to relive our time there since we’ve come home.

So when I picked up Seductive Tables for Two by Moll Anderson, I knew I wanted to create a romantic tablescape for the two of us that evoked memories of our time in Paris.

In her new book, Moll talks about how important it is to take time as a couple and keep the spark alive through a romantic dinner. She give suggestions on different themes and ideas, along with recipes, for creating a romantic atmosphere in your meal together.

She focuses on color, lighting, flowers, music and fabric as the essential ways to set the mood with your tablescape. One of my favorite suggestions in the book is to add little surprises and mementos that evoke memories together.

I decided to create a table centered around some Paris and Eiffel Tower themed fabric I had found. The colors were red, black and white, so I used a wire Eiffel tower, along with some red and white roses as accents to the table.

Instead of a heavy meal, I went with a selection of cheeses, crackers and French bread. When we were in Paris, we snacked a lot on these kinds of foods instead of having big meals. A bottle of our favorite wine made it easy to set the mood.

I also bought some French macarons from a local bakery — in Paris, we didn’t get the chance to try these decadent cookies, so I wanted us to have this new memory together.

It was a wonderful evening and now when I think of Paris, my thoughts wander to that night first.

Your photography is amazing. And I love what you came up with! That book looks like some serious inspiration!

Also, I love your blog’s title 🙂 I, too, married a nerd. A lot of people don’t know it, though. He’s more of a closet nerd (though he has no problem telling people he’s full-on video games/Star Wars/LOTR, etc. nerdy). Seriously, though, he’s got me hooked, too – everytime I see anything Star Wars related – especially for kids – I have to snap a pic and send it to him and tell him it’s going in our future nursery. And do you watch Modern Family at all? He was pretty proud of me when I squealed last week, “Lando’s on Modern Family!!” Haha.
