Sometimes I wish I lived in an Airstream,
Homemade curtains, lived just like a gypsy.
This song by Miranda Lambert has been stuck in my head since we had a visit last week from some friends who are traveling the country in an Airstream. They stopped here in Dallas for a few days, and we had so much fun getting to know their beautiful family.
Last fall, the Curren Family bought an Airstream and set out on the road to live life and have a few adventures along the way. Their family of five lives in the Airstream full-time — even though they visited us for two nights, they made the trek back out to their own beds in the trailer each night. And they like it that way.
I have to admit — I’m a little envious of their lifestyle. I can only imagine the fun they’ve had. The Nerd and I had some great conversations with Sam and Jess about their life on the road and how it’s changed their family. I know that realistically, that life would probably never work for our family. We each need our space, and while our family has traveled quite a bit, I always need some major recovery time from the stress of each trip.
I loved hearing more of their story and getting a glimpse at their wandering lifestyle. Jess is an amazing photographer who captures their daily life in the most beautiful way. Their blog, Currently Wandering, is now one of my daily reads.
Of course, we had to show off some of our favorite places in Dallas — the Perot Museum for a day of fun for the kids, Chuy’s for some yummy Mexican food, and Kenny’s Smokehouse for the best Texas BBQ ever.
Andrew loved exploring the “bus” and making new friends. We were both more than a little sad when it pulled away, taking the Currens off to their next adventure.
Here’s to new friendships and exploring more of the world!
Now don’t you want to go live in an Airstream?
