One of our favorite things to do during the summer is visit theme parks. Whether it’s a trip to SeaWorld San Antonio or a day at Six Flags Over Texas, our family loves to spend the day in the hot sun riding rides and just having fun. These 5 Things to Pack for a Theme Park Vacation are necessities when you plan on spending the day there!
If you’ve spent any time at theme parks, you know that things tend to be more expensive in the gift shops. So making sure you’ve got all of the supplies you’ll need before you leave home is essential!
Here are my must-have items:
1. Ray-Ban Sunglasses
I recently shared my love of Ray-Ban sunglasses. I’m a firm believer in investing in a nice pair of shades. They make all the difference on a hot summer day!
2. Summer Hat
Whether it’s for yourself or your little one, a summer hat is a MUST. When the hot sun is beating down, you’ll be wishing you had one. And you don’t want to have to buy one, trust me!
3. Protective Phone Case
A waterproof phone case, like a LifeProof case for the iPhone, is great for peace of mind when it comes to your electronic devices. You don’t want to get them squirted by a water gun! Plus, you can get in close to snap those fun water play moments!
4. DIY Temporary Safety Tattoos
These DIY Temporary Safety Tattoos can be a life-saver, literally! We make sure to put them on my son before going anywhere there could be a crowd. And for a fraction of the price that you can order them online, this is the way to do it!
5. Banana Boat Sunscreen
We LOVE Banana Boat sunscreen. My husband really likes the Men’s SPF 30 Clear Spray, while I’m partial to the Protect & Hydrate 50 Lotion. And we always get the Kid’s Tear Free SPF 50 Clear Spray for Andrew. Some other varieties that I want to check out are the Sport SPF 50 Clear Spray, Protect & Hydrate 50 Spray, and Men’s SPF 50 Lotion.
We’ve been using it for years, and it’s never let us down. As a fair-skinned family, sunscreen is a top priority when we go anywhere during the summer, especially a sunny theme park!
Plus, it’s easy to stock up on these summer essentials at Walmart, where there’s a huge display with all of your Banana Boat needs — you could win instant prizes, including a $100 Walmart gift card!
And be sure to check out the Banana Boat Wheel of Fun on Facebook!
Once you’ve taken care of the essentials, you can get down to the summer fun.
What are your theme park essentials?

Paula @ Frosted Fingers
Those are some great essentials! I’ve started looking for a summer hat for Quinn and apparently she has a small head! She’s almost 5 months old and was swimming in the 0-3 month hats!
Kimberly Grabinski
Great tips and I especially love those safety tattoos. I never leave the house without sunglasses, rain or shine!
Beth
Great tips. Don’t forget the sunscreen for sure … you will pay three times more at the park!
Nicole Brady
We can’t go anywhere without sunscreen. I burn much too easily. We had those tattoos when we went to Disney a few years ago and while we never needed to have anyone call us, it sure was peace of mind.
Audrey at Barking Mad!
The DIY safety tats are awesome! We spend a lot of time at water parks and beaches during the summer and these are something we are definitely going to use for the kiddo!
Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in Parenting
Fantastic tips! We’re visiting SeaWorld this weekend, too, so we’re gonna be implementing these tips SOON 😉
Rachel @Runningrachel
Great tips! I love the safety tattoo tip!! 🙂
Lisa Johnston
Such great pics and tips. We needed the tattoos last summer when we lost my son and nephew at disney. We ended up writing our cell numbers in Sharpie on their arms!
Sara P. (@SensiblySara)
We haven’t used the DIY Safety tattoos, but all the other items are on my ‘to pack’ list as well!
Amanda
Other essentials for us include a water bottle, towel to shade the stroller during nap time, a good pair of walking shoes… love your DIY safety tatoos!
Liz Mays
It’s so important to keep their skin protected from the sun! I love the idea of the temporary tattoos too.

I go through a TON of sunscreen…we all GLOW white and burn very easily!
Jen - Life With Levi
Safety tattoos are a great idea! You never know what can happen in a crowded place.
Mellisa
We always carry sunscreen. I love those Tattoos, what great idea.
Valerie Remy-Milora
What great essentials! Those temporary safety tattoos are great and should be in every moms purse all year long. We’ll be heading out to Universal Studios and Disneyland at some point this summer so thanks for the great reminders. I always carry extra water with me as well – kids aren’t great about staying hydrated and the last thing I want after a fun but long and tiring day is a kiddo with a bed headache 🙁

Cute photos! Yes, sunscreen is very important. Sunscreen is so much more kid friendly than it used to be. Sunglasses are another must have and we never leave home without them.
Tiff @ Babes and Kids
This is an awesome list. I especially love the diy tattoos, such a smart idea!
Jennifer @ Mom Spotted
I really recommend baby wipes! We are 6 Flags pass holders and we always end up with some sticky mess or they touch something gross.
Crystal Green
I love the temporary DIY tattoo idea. I wouldn’t have thought of that one. Thank you for this list.
