This is my favorite time of year. I just love getting in the kitchen and getting my bake on. These Christmas Swirl Sugar Cookies are my favorite to bring to a holiday cookie exchange — their fun, bright colors are so festive!
The best thing about them is that you can use your favorite sugar cookie recipe. I typically have all the ingredients that I need for sugar cookies in my pantry, so I can whip these up without much notice.

Christmas Swirl Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
Prepared Sugar Cookie Dough
Red Food Coloring
Green Food Coloring
Wax Paper
Christmas Sprinkles
Directions:
Separate the cookie dough into two sections and roll into a ball.
Make a small cavity in each of the ball, then add food coloring to the cavity and work the coloring into the dough to color it.
Roll each dough ball flat between two sheets of wax paper and chill. Stack the two layers of dough on top of each other and use a sharp knife to cut the edges to straighten them.
Roll the dough length-wise to create a log. Wrap it in wax paper and put it in the freezer until it’s hard. Cut the log using a sharp knife to make the cookies.
Don’t worry if the cookies seem tiny before baking — they’ll spread out in the oven.
Roll the edges of the cookies in sprinkles and place on a prepared baking sheet. Bake according to your sugar cookie recipe.
Aren’t they fun?

I love making these cookies.
The only difference in the process is I roll the whole log of sugar cookie dough in sprinkles before I put it back in the fridge to chill. Then all I have to do is slice and throw in the oven.
