Texting and Driving: It Can Wait #VZWVoices

June 4, 2013 by Arena Blake 5 Comments

It Can Wait

As a Verizon Wireless Ambassador, I’m really excited to share one of their newest initiatives — the It Can Wait campaign. Verizon is partnering with AT&T to raise awareness to the dangers of texting and driving.

Here are just a few facts about texting and driving:

  1. Drivers who send text messages are 23 times more likely to be in a car crash.
  2. Of all cell phone related tasks while driving- including talking, dialing or reaching for the phone- texting while driving is the most dangerous.
  3. In 2010, texting while driving increased 50% in one year and two out of every 10 drivers say they’ve sent text messages or e-mails while behind the wheel — despite the rush by states to ban the practice.
  4. When drivers read or send a text message, their reaction time is doubled; and when asked to respond to a flashing light while texting behind the wheel, drivers were more than 11 times more likely to miss the light altogether.

I took the pledge against texting and driving at the It Can Wait website — and dedicated my pledge to The Nerd and Andrew. You can take it, too. You can also download an activation kit, with a desktop background, stencil and tips.

Need help keeping that phone out of your hands? The Verizon Safely Go Android App will receive your calls and texts, keeping you connected and responsible, and making you — and the road — safer.

Have you taken the pledge against texting and driving?

**Disclaimer** I am a Verizon Wireless Ambassador. I received a wireless device and phone/data plan free of charge to use for review and evaluation of Verizon Wireless products and services. I also received tickets to Sesame Street Live. As part of the program, I was asked to share my opinions with others, however, my opinions are my own. Please contact vzw@comblu.com with any questions about the Verizon Wireless Ambassadors’ Program.

I need to stop doing this at red lights… people honk at me because I get lost in my phone. Truely it can wait! 🙂 (Thanks for this reminder!)

Totally get it — it’s so easy to get caught up in your phone without realizing how much time slips by. Little reminders like this really help. Staying present at red lights definitely saves you from those honks!

This is such an important reminder. It’s so easy to think a quick text won’t matter, but posts like this really make you stop and think about the real risks. I like how you shared both facts and your personal experience it makes the message feel more real. Definitely something everyone needs to be reminded of.”

Texting while driving is honestly one of the most dangerous habits on the road today, and campaigns like “It Can Wait” do a great job of spreading awareness about how serious the risks really are. Many people think sending a quick message only takes a second, but even a brief distraction can lead to life-changing accidents. The statistics shared here are genuinely eye-opening and show why drivers should always keep their focus on the road. Apps and digital tools that help reduce distractions can make a big difference in promoting safer driving habits. At the same time, technology is also helping people stay creative and productive in safer ways through useful mobile tools and editing apps available on modwinkapk.com, where users can explore different digital resources without compromising road safety.

Texting while driving is definitely one of the most dangerous distractions on the road today. Campaigns like “It Can Wait” are important because they help raise awareness about how a few seconds of distraction can completely change lives. The statistics about reaction time and accident risks are especially alarming.

Many modern digital tools are now being designed to improve safety, simplify daily tasks, and reduce unnecessary distractions. Lightweight online systems such as cerca codice fiscale utilities also show how web-based platforms can provide fast access to information without adding complexity to the user experience.

The Verizon Safely Go app sounds like a smart idea for encouraging safer driving habits while still helping users stay connected responsibly.
