Nerdy Things Thursday: The Walking Dead

March 10, 2011 by Arena Blake 3 Comments

Welcome to Nerdy Things Thursday, a feature where I highlight and discuss one of the *many* geeky things The Nerd has introduced me to.

This week, we’re going to talk about The Walking Dead.

You may be familiar with this series, thanks to the recent television show on AMC.

But the story has actually been around a lot longer than that as a comic series. It follows a group of people in Atlanta, Georgia as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse.

The comics were condensed into trade paperbacks, with six issues in each volume. There are currently 13 volumes released, with the 14th volume in production.

Of course, we own all 13 volumes. And The Nerd watched the TV series religiously.

From what I’ve seen, the show is very gritty and the story-telling is really great. The Nerd loves anything to do with zombies, so that gives it major bonus points in his eyes.

The inside pages are black and white with comic-style drawings.

Apparently, there’s lots of hitting. BLAM!

The TV show is really good, too.

Of course, I don’t really *like* scary shows, so when I had nightmares after watching the pilot, I refused to watch any more. No matter how good they are, I *don’t* want to be chased by zombies in my dreams. No, thanks.

What do you think? Have you watched any of the TV show? Read any of the comics?

LOVE the show….Hubby and I watched all of them…and I have to admit I had zombie nightmares a few times. I didn’t realize that they were a comic before my husband told me. We can’t wait to see what happens next season…just stinks that we have to wait till October again, but this season will be more then 6 episodes so at least we have that 🙂

My husband and I love the comic series as well as the tv series. We are major zombie fans so the fact that they were turning our favorite comic into an awesome looking show was great news. The other cool thing about the show is that the special effects are done by KNB, namely Greg Nicotero, who got his start in the efx business working for George Romero on Day of the Dead. We are big fans of his work and knew that with him in charge of the effects the result would be amazing.

I am currently reading Dude’s comics while we’re watching the first season!

I hear you on the nightmare front! I’m totally going to have zombie nightmares for awhile!
