Guest Post: The ARCs of ALA

January 13, 2011 by Arena Blake 7 Comments

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I’ve been sick this week with strep throat. Yuck.
Luckily, one of my wonderful blogger friends stepped up and offered to write a guest post for me so you would continue to be entertained, even when I’m out sick! 🙂
Kai from Fiction State of Mind had the chance to attend ALA Midwinter last weekend, and she’s going to share some of the exciting new reads she discovered!
Welcome, Kai!
*****
Last weekend, I attended ALA Midwinter in San Diego. Primarily a convention for librarians, ALA offers exhibit-only passes that present an amazing opportunity to meet with authors, publishers and editors.
And, of course, to get new books!
I had never attended this event before and was overwhelmed by the generosity of the different publishers.
Here are a few of the ARCs I picked up whose covers really stood out to me:
CORSETS & CLOCKWORK

Combining Steampunk sensibilities with romance is the goal of this anthology featuring authors: Ann Aguirre, Caitlin Kittredge, Lesley Livingston, Dia Reeves and many others.

 WHERE SHE WENT
Gayle Forman’s sequel to the wonderful If I Stay. Something about this model conveys a sense of adventure and life to me; I’m looking forward to reading it.
RED GLOVE

I love the design of this book. I have to hurry up and read White Cat so I can get to this one.
 THE GATHERING
I’m so behind on Kelly Armstrong’s Women of the Underworld series, so I was glad to see The Gathering was the start of a new series. Looks interesting, Gorgeous Cover!
 WOLFSBANE
Another gorgeous cover for the second book in Andrea Cremer’s Nightshade series. Looking forward to reading book 1 and 2 back-to-back.
 CHIME
I picked this up solely by the cover and as I was walking past a really nice lady stopped me to tell me how good the book was! An interesting Fantasy Romance.

 TIGER’S CURSE

This cover totally drew me in. When I read the back cover I was totally sold. A young girl fights to remove a terrible curse from to enigmatic brothers. Another fantasy epic.
This is just a fraction of the wonderful books I acquired over the weekend.
I’ll be posting lots more info and ALA swap contests all this week!
Happy Reading!

Thanks, Kai! Can I just say how totally jealous I am of all the wonderful books you got?

I just finished Tiger's Curse 2 weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. As it turns out there are 3 books that are already out there in the series, and they are on ebay for $100. I heard these books came out in 2007, and now that there is a major publisher the original copies are being sold on ebay. I love all the books that you read and it's nice to share this passion with others!
