Fried Goodness from the State Fair of Texas!

October 4, 2010 by Arena Blake 7 Comments

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, so I consider myself a Texan through and through.
So, I’m a bit ashamed to admit that when we went to the State Fair of Texas this past weekend, it was my first time.
You know, to go to the state fair.
IMG_5049
Of course, I had to sample some of the deep-fried specialties, as well as the traditional fair food.
IMG_5017
First up, was the Chicken Fried Bacon.

This heart-attack-just-waiting-to-happen was The Nerd’s favorite dish.
He’d like his arteries clogged up as quickly as possible.
IMG_5027
River’s favorite was the Funnel Cake.
IMG_5029
Err…rather, the *powdered sugar* on the Funnel Cake.
IMG_5047
When we walked by this stand advertising fried cookie dough, I knew I’d found my new favorite thing.
IMG_5054
I mean, look at that! Deep Fried Cookie Dough, topped with chocolate syrup and powdered sugar.
IMG_5061
Heaven in a small ball, breaded and deep-fried.
Oh.My.Gosh.
They were *so* good! And tasted remarkably like my Brookie recipe.
IMG_5052
Then we tried the Fried Chocolate.
Served with chocolate syrup, powdered sugar and whipped cream.
IMG_5062
The Nerd was definitely a fan. They kind of tasted like brownies.
IMG_5044
Other things we didn’t try:
Fried Frito Pie
Fried Beer
Fried Margaritas
Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana Sandwiches
IMG_5012
Still, though, my favorite thing was the Sausage on a Stick.
Y-U-M.
Fried Cookie Dough, Fried Chocolate and Chicken Fried Bacon were just a few of the delicacies we tried during our trip to the State Fair of Texas!

*drool* I'm ready to move to Texas now with a big bag of Lipitor. Yummy fried food beats SoCal raw food restaurants any day! -Westie

Today was my day off work due to fair day, but I didn't go .. It would have been the perfect day for it … but I just wanted to laze and read. 🙂

I am a sucker for funnel cake. I can't say no.

I'm in Arizona and at our State Fair we have deep fried, chocolate covered scorpions. No, I have never tried it. I just stick to funnel cake.
