If you hadn’t noticed, our dogs are like our children.
I post about them all the time.
You probably get tired of it.
But I hope not.
Yesterday, we got a scare that no pet parent should ever have to endure.
Our dogs escaped the backyard and made a run for it.
Of course, we were inside and had no idea they’d gotten out.
When we did, we drove all around the neighborhood searching for them.
I was panicking.
James was freaking out.
It had been an hour an we still hadn’t found them.
Seriously, I was panicking.
And then, all of a sudden, there they were, just trotting down the street back toward home.
Covered in dirt and sticker burrs.
Looking like they were having the time of their lives.
They ran up to the car, jumped in and we headed home.
Our babies found.
I cannot describe the emotional turmoil I was going through.
Would we be able to find them?
What if they were hit by a car?
What if we never see them again?
And the relief when we finally spotted them?
Incredible. Filling. Instantaneous.
Can you see the relief in James’ face?
Kaylee was exhausted. She immediately took a nap on the cold tile floor.
Silly, silly puppies.
I’m so glad they’re home.

Wow! I'm so glad you found them and I'm so glad they are home safe. My dog is my fur baby as well so I can totally relate!

Holy cats, our dog did the SAME THING last night. Hubby went to put something in his car around 10, and Dexter darted out the door, down the steps, and into the black night. I heard Hubby yell and went running. He was in the neighbor's yard chasing Dexter, weiner dogs run FAST. Finally I called Dex and he ran to me. Hubby was so upset, and when we went to bed last night he said to me shakily, I thought we lost him.
Silly puppies.

That is one of the worse feelings in the world.
Ours haven't gotten out at home recently, but while we were in Costa Rica, they were staying with my mom and dad.
On a whim one night, we decided to check our cell phones for messaged. I had a text from mom asking us to text them as soon as we could. That was worrying enough, but then Bryan had 6 from some lady saying she had Haley.
Dad had forgotten to close the gate after some yard work and let all 3 of the dogs out (Annie, Haley and their beagle Penny) around 2pm. Annie and Penny were easily caught, but Haley was gone. We were checking our messages around 10pm.
My mom and dad had spent 8 hours driving around, recruiting friends to drive around, calling dog shelters, frantically looking for Haley.
Thankfully we were able to get the nice lady in touch with my dad and Haley made it back safe and sound after an afternoon of playing with the lady's three sons. Mom and Dad definitely had the worse of the panic, but we had a couple of tense hours where we were stuck in another country not knowing where are big girl was.
I agree–silly puppies! lol

Thank you, all! It is so scary when your pups get out. Glad to hear that you all found yours safely, too!

I have a part beagle part pug (puggle) and when she runs off or gets out of the house I flip out also, I become that neurotic dog mother and want to have a heart attack. But when I find her I can't be mad at her I just want to hug her. So I completely understand your panic and relief.
And talk about your dogs as much as you like. 🙂
