Our Five-Year Class Reunion and a Tour of the MSC at Texas A&M

A&M Reunion-016

I can hardly believe it’s been five years since we graduated from college. I look back at the years that we spent at Texas A&M with such fondness.

Last weekend, we headed south to College Station for our reunion and to watch the Aggies beat the hell outta South Carolina State University. It was a great day, and a great game!

We toured the newly renovated Memorial Student Center and stopped by a tailgate hosted by our friend, Ryan. We even got to have our photo taken with Reveille!

I love going back to College Station. Do you feel the same way aout your college town? When was the last time you visited?

PS – All photos in this post were taken with the Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon Wireless. Its camera is awesome and I find myself leaving my DSLR at home more often than not.

Hallmark "Moments and Milestones" Tour

Hallmark Tour DFW-019.jpg

Last week, I was invited to join a group of Dallas Mom Bloggers at the Hallmark “Moments and Milestones” Tour.

As moms, we tend to strive for those “Hallmark Moments” in life where you achieve the “picture perfect” setting. But Hallmark has really tried to turn that colloquialism on its head with their newest campaign.

During the event, Hallmark employees talked about how they’re encouraging us to pause and recognize those unplanned, perfectly imperfect moments we share with our loved ones — the moments that can take place any day and the moments that take place when we’re celebrating milestones.

It was a fun event and we got to see some of Hallmark’s newest products. We also got a behind-the-scenes look at how they style and plan photo shoots for their cards and we even got the chance to try to write some of our own greeting cards!

Pictured above are Jamie from Totally the Bomb, Lea Ann from Mommy’s Wishlist, and Crystal from Crystal & Co.

It’s not often that an event has me laughing one moment and crying the next! But the Hallmark ladies had it all under control — there were boxes of tissues on every table!

Some of my favorite products were the Text Bands and the Personalized Party Plates. I learned that you can order custom photo cards from them. I’ll definitely be utilizing that for Andrew’s upcoming birthday party! And I LOVED the Curious George Recordable Storybook!

Use the Promo Code BLOG30 to receive 30% off your order at Hallmark.com!

What are some ways that you tell your loved ones that they matter?

Hoffbrau Steaks in Dallas, Texas

Hoffbrau Steaks North Dallas-001-2.jpg

As a proud Texan, I am always up for dinner at a good steakhouse. And some of the best, like Hoffbrau Steaks, can be found here in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The menu at Hoffbrau Steaks boasts traditional Southern classics, like fried okra, with a twist. Some of the items that caught my eye included Broccoli and Jalapeño Cheese Soup and Cajun Tilapia Salad.

The Nerd and I recently had lunch at the North Dallas location, and we sampled some of their dishes. I really enjoyed the Fried Okra with Spicy Ranch Dipping Sauce and their Sirloin was tender, juicy and just plain good. The Nerd had the Dr Pepper chicken and raved about it the rest of the day. We walked away with full bellies and a sense of satisfaction.

I think we’ve found our new favorite DFW chain!

It was a great lunch and we had a fabulous time. I can’t wait to go back and try some of that soup!

Dallas World Aquarium: Dallas, Texas

Dallas World Aquarium-007.jpg

This weekend, we took Andrew to the Dallas World Aquarium in the Historic West End.

This place is really more than an aquarium. There was this giant rainforest in the middle, with tons of different animals — monkeys, birds and fish. It was so beautiful and so fun.

But the best part was when we actually got to the aquarium. The shark tank alone was worth the price of admission.

Andrew made it about half-way through the aquarium before konking out. The Nerd and I still had fun, though.

It was such a fun day. I hope that Andrew never forgets it.

Boots and Stripes

Boots and Stripes-007.jpg

I am so ready for fall: Chilly days and cool nights, early sunsets and rainy mornings.

Fall is my favorite season.

I’ve recently decided to branch out with my style. I’ve been reading lots of style blogs and have started to try to define my own personal style. This is very hard for me — I grew up a Tomboy who thought that dressing up constituted wearing my hair down and not in a pony tail.

Since having Andrew, it’s difficult for me to wear pants. My c-section scar still hurts when the waist of pants hit it in just the right spot. Does that happen to anyone else? Also? My left leg goes to sleep CONSTANTLY. Like seriously, sometimes I have a hard time standing up on it. These are the things no one tells you about having a baby. Your body is never the same!

This fall, my go-to outfit will be a shift dress, leggings and boots. The dress is flattering with my post-baby belly, the leggings provide some warmth and comfort, and the boots? Well, it’s just not fall without a great pair of boots.

Top it off with some bright lips, and you’re ready to tackle the day.

Like I said, I can’t wait for fall, y’all.

Wine and Food Pairings with Mirassou Winery

This weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend Bloggy Bootcamp Dallas with the marvelous SITS Girls. I learned so much and am still processing a lot of it.

On Friday night, I was invited by one of the sponsors, Mirassou Winery, to attend a dinner with a few other bloggers. Of course, I jumped at the chance!

I am not much of a drinker, but I always prefer wine over beer any day. I always go for sweeter wines, like Riesling, and steer far away from red wines. I honestly don’t know much about wines, except that it’s really hard for me to find one that I like.

That changed after dinner with Mirassou. When paired with the right food, each wine brought out different textures and flavors. David Mirassou, the sixth-generation of the wine-making family, shared stories of his family history with us and talked about the different elements that made each wine unique. It was truly an experience I will never forget!

Mirassou Collage 1Mirassou-005.jpgMirassou Collage 2Mirassou-042.jpgMirrasou Collage 3Mirassou-040.jpg

With Amanda from Click the Good News, Chasity from Haute Mommy, David, Melissa from Pineapple Lily, Jennifer from Still Living the Dream, Liz, Emily from 52 Mantels, Aimee from It’s Overflowing, and Holly from June Cleaver Nirvana.

My takeaway from the evening? Wine evokes memories of good times with good friends. A glass of wine makes you remember the time you spent drinking it, and who you were with.

My absolute favorite Mirassou wines? Moscato, Riesling and, surprisingly, Sauvignon Blanc.

Mirassou also have a great Food and Wine Pairing Suggestions tool to help you decide what kind of wine to serve with different meals. Did you know that you can even take a wine personality quiz?

What’s your favorite wine?

Earlier this week, the winner was revealed and as a Verizon Wireless Ambassador, I got to attend the event!
