It’s the story of Ethan and Lena, two teenagers pulled together by a love that neither understands.

Ethan has been plagued for months by vivid dreams where he loses the girl he loves… a girl he’s never seen until she walks into his small-town high school one day as the new girl in town.

Soon, Ethan is thrown into her world of dark magic and destiny, where you don’t get to choose your fate, and Mortals aren’t meant to love Casters.

Beautiful Creatures is a rich story that haunted my dreams and consumed my thoughts long after I closed its last page. The profound level of love and loss resonated with me.

I especially identified with Lena and her journey of self-discovery. She is so afraid of what she will become, she loses sight of who she is. But she is able to come to terms with that through Ethan and his love for her.

The Southern setting of the story and the Civil War flashbacks add a unique flavor to the tale that you don’t often find in young adult literature today. And the story is told from Ethan’s perspective, which is a welcome change to the female-dominated genre.

Beautiful Creatures is a story you won’t soon forget.
