Vanish and Shut Out ARC {giveaway}

EDITED: The contest is now closed.

Let’s continue the epic-ness of July by giving away some more ARCs, shall we?

Don’t worry — I have lots more to give away! I’m thinking we’ll do two per week until I’m all out. How does that sound?

This week, I’ve chosen two ARCs that I, personally, can’t WAIT to read!

“To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.”

Release Date: Sept. 6, 2011

“Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it’s a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy’s car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend’s attention.

Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players’ girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won’t get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don’t count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.

Inspired by Aristophanes’ play Lysistrata, critically acclaimed author of The Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) Kody Keplinger adds her own trademark humor in this fresh take on modern teenage romance, rivalry and sexuality.”

Stephanie Perkins Signing {and Giveaway!}

EDITED: The contest is now closed.

Stephanie Perkins-002.jpg

Last month, I had the chance to meet the amazing, adorable, wonderful Stephanie Perkins, author of Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door.

She stopped by the Irving Public Library to discuss her debut novel, Anna and the French Kiss.

Stephanie Perkins-005.jpg

Stephanie read from the beginning of Anna. She was so fun and full of life, talking about how she channeled a lot of herself and her insecurities into Anna’s character.

Stephanie Perkins-007.jpg

“A few months ago, my father enrolled me in boarding school,” she read. “His air quotes practically crackled over the phone line as he declared living abroad to be a ‘good learning experience’ and a ‘keepsake I’d treasure forever.’ Yeah. Keepsake. And I would’ve pointed out his misuse of the word had I not already been freaking out.”

Stephanie Perkins-008.jpg

In her voice, Anna practically jumped off the page and joined Stephanie on the stage.

Stephanie talked about how she had always wanted to write children’s literature, but in college, her professors frowned upon her preference. Serious authors wrote serious novels, they told her. So Stephanie struggled for years to write an adult novel.

She finally gave in to her desire to write a young adult story, and thus, Anna and the French Kiss was born.

Where’d she get the idea for the story? She had a dream about St. Claire. I bet that was one heck of a dream!

I really, truly LOVED Anna and the French Kiss — so I wanted to share the love with you!

And you know what that means … a giveaway! I picked up an extra hardcover of Anna and had Stephanie sign it for you! But wait… that’s not all!

Because I know that you won’t be able to get enough after Anna, I’m also giving away an Advanced Reader’s Copy of Lola and the Boy Next Door, Stephanie’s next book! It will be released on Sept. 29 from Dutton Books.

In My Mailbox: ALA Edition!

Last weekend, I headed to New Orleans with my mom and sister-in-law for the American Library Association’s summer convention. It was a blast!

Not only was it great to have a girls’ weekend with tow of my favorite ladies, but we had the chance to pick up some seriously awesome books!

I came back with about 40 books. I was kind of picky about which ones I took, since I knew I’d had limited time to read. And I didn’t want to deprive someone else of a book that they’d enjoy when I knew the chances of me reading it were slim.

BUT – I was able to get my hands on some great ones. Here’s a stack of my favorites:

untitled shoot-001.jpg

Crossed by Ally Condy
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Forever by Maggie Stiefvater (signed!)
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater (signed!)
The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff (signed!)
Shut Out by Kody Keplinger
Legend by Marie Lu
The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa (signed!)
The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler
Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
The Taker by Alma Katsu
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (not pictured)

untitled shoot-002.jpg

We waited in line for two hours to pick up Crossed by Ally Condy, the sequel to Matched. I am *dying* to start reading this one (I mean, come on!) but since it doesn’t come out until November, I’m prioritizing other books with earlier release dates.

untitled shoot-003.jpg

We picked up Lola and the Boy Next Door during our first day at the convention. Again, we waited about two hours in line for this one. And I’m glad we did! Those babies went like hot cakes when the awesome ladies at the Penguin Booth laid them down. Seriously, people were running up and reaching over us in line to grab the books and run off. It was CRAZY. I think they learned a lot from that, because the next day, the Penguin ladies *handed* out the ARCs, instead of just letting you take one.

I couldn’t wait to read this one. We got back to the hotel on Saturday around 3 pm, and I started reading it. I finished that night. Yes, we were total dorks and stayed in the hotel to read and order pizza. But it was SO worth it! Lola is amazing … and I loved it more than Anna, and I think that’s due to a certain nerdy boy who shall remain nameless (cough, cough: Cricket!! cough, cough)

untitled shoot-004.jpg

And here’s another I’m really excited for. A modern-day Jack the Ripper tale by the amazing Maureen Johnson? Yes, please! It sounds fantastic and I can’t wait to read it!

ALA was an awesome trip and I am so looking forward to next time! The mid-winter meeting is in Dallas, so you know I can’t miss that one!

My mom and sister-in-law have been awesome enough to donate some of their ARCs for me to give away on the blog. Look for an epic ARC giveaway (with many of the titles mentioned above!) to come soon!

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

Forever by Maggie Stiefvater ARC Giveaway!

UPDATED: I am adding a *signed* ARC to this giveaway! So now, there will be TWO winners! One will receive the signed ARC, and another will receive an unsigned ARC.

AND – I’m changing it to an INTERNATIONAL contest! Woohoo!

HURRY! Only a few days left to enter!

*****

This weekend, I headed to New Orleans for ALA, the American Library Association’s annual meeting. My mom and sister-in-law, Alex, were kind enough to come with me, so we made it a girls’ weekend and had a BLAST.

I am still reeling from our trip (and I have SO MANY books to read now!), but I wanted to get this giveaway posted so that I have a chance to send this book before it is released.

As you know, I LOVE the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater. I have professed my love on many occasions. And at ALA, I had the chance to pick up an Advanced Reader’s Copy of the final book in the series: Forever by Maggie Stiefvater.

This book is bittersweet for me. I have waited a long time to find out how the series ends, but I don’t want it to end!

“The thrilling conclusion to #1 bestselling Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy from Maggie Stiefvater.

In Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. In Linger, they fought to be together. Now, in Forever, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.”
