Chevy Fan Day With Jeff Gordon at Texas Motor Speedway

Chevy Fan Day-001.jpg

Yesterday, the Nerd and I headed to Texas Motor Speedway for Chevy Fan Day, courtesy of Chevy DFW.

I had never been to a NASCAR event, and I’m still processing a lot of what we saw and experienced. I have TONS of photos to go through and edit (and share with you all!)

But the coolest things we got to do was go on a hot lap with Jeff Gordon. I took along my video camera so you could experience it, too.

It was so much fun! Jeff told us that they asked him to stay at or below 90 mph during the lap, but then he wouldn’t say how fast he was going. Naughty, naughty.

Luckily, The Nerd was sitting in the back seat with a clear view of the speedometer — he said it passed 130 mph.

Have you ever been to a NASCAR race? Who’s your favorite driver?

I promise more pics (and stories) soon!

Spring In Texas Means One Thing…

2011 Bluebonnets-016.jpg

BLUEBONNETS!!

2011 Bluebonnets-005.jpg

Ask any Texan mom (or, in my case, aunt) and they’ll tell you — Spring means days spent eyeing random fields and highway sides looking for the inky blue petals of our state flower.

2011 Bluebonnets-009.jpg

What is it about bluebonnets that makes us go crazy and dress up our children and try to make them sit still long enough to snap a few photos?

2011 Bluebonnets-010.jpg

It’s not like we haven’t taken these pictures every. single. year.

2011 Bluebonnets-004.jpg

It’s not like it’s *easy* for a toddler to sit still while there are so many pretty flower to touch.

2011 Bluebonnets-001.jpg

So many pretty flowers in which to frolic.

2011 Bluebonnets-003.jpg

So many pretty flowers in which to… check your e-mail? Yes, this is what Nerds do when you bring them along for “moral support.” He does this all. the. freaking. time.

2011 Bluebonnets-012.jpg

River had a great time running through the field of bluebonnets we found.

Such a great time, in fact, that she cried when it was time to go.

“But I wanna play in the pretty flowers,” she wailed, as Nanna carried her back to the car. “We can’t stay here all day,” Nanna replied. “But I don’t want to leave.”

2011 Bluebonnets-017.jpg

I guess we’ll just have to come back next year.

Do you like our field of bluebonnets? It’s the *perfect* spot if you live in North Dallas.

There are three huge field of bluebonnets right in front of the JCPenney headquarters in Plano. Here’s the address: 6501 Legacy Drive, Plano, Texas. If you turn right onto Corporate Drive from Legacy Drive, there are spots to park along the road. So awesome!

Do you take photos of your kids in the bluebonnets? Where are your favorite spots?

Claudia Gray Signing: Dallas, Texas

Claudia Gray-004.jpg

Last night, I headed to our local Barnes and Noble to see Claudia Gray, author of Afterlife, the fourth book in the Evernight series.

I haven’t had the chance to read the series yet, but I’ve heard great things about it. And you know my obsession with author signings. This one was so close, I couldn’t miss it!

Claudia Gray-006.jpg

Claudia was so wonderful — she took the time to chat with each of us in the line and she even asked me about the story behind my name.

That’s one I’ll have to share sometime. It’s a great one.

Claudia Gray-004.jpg

I really loved how personable and nice Claudia was. I’m so often star-struck by the authors I meet, but she made me feel so comfortable.

Claudia Gray-008.jpg

Isn’t she so great?

And…because I love you all so very much, I scored an extra *signed* copy of Afterlife to give away!

Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge: 2011

I have lived in Texas my whole life (except for a brief stint in Washington, DC for an internship). In that time, I’ve been to the State Fair, I’ve crossed the Rio Grande, I’ve seen the Come and Get It Canon and I’ve even been to Cowboys Stadium.

I think of myself as a true Texan, but until this weekend, I had never been to a rodeo. That’s right — no bullriding challenges for me.

So when the North Texas Chevy Dealers invited me to the 2011 Tuff Hedeman Championship bullriding challenge, I happily accepted!

April and Eric came up from Houston to go with us. It was a great chance to get to hang out for a while!

Tuff_Hedeman-002.jpg

Of course, we *had* to stop by the Chevy booth when we arrived at the Will Rogers Coliseum.

Tuff_Hedeman-003.jpg

It’s Truck Month at Chevy, so I made sure to stop by and check out the new Chevy Silverado. I just love this color of red.

Tuff_Hedeman-004.jpg

And, of course, we had to check out the Chevy Volt!

Tuff_Hedeman-005.jpg

Here’s the plug where you plug it in! I just think that’s *so* cool!

Tuff_Hedeman-008.jpg

When it was time for the rodeo to start, the Silverado was front and center (as it should be!).

Tuff_Hedeman-010.jpg

The show got started with a bang, and a tribute to CBR.

Tuff_Hedeman-011.jpg

And then Tuff Hedeman himself rode in on a motorcycle!

Tuff_Hedeman-013.jpg

Soon, the bull riding began.

Tuff_Hedeman-025.jpg

These guys have *guts*.

Tuff_Hedeman-029.jpg

Occasionally, a bull broke free once it had bucked off its rider. The errant bulls were quickly rounded up, though.

Tuff_Hedeman-030.jpg

This bull was named Marshmallow. A cute name for a mean bull.

Tuff_Hedeman-032.jpg

In true fashion, The Nerd wore his “bow chica bow wow” shirt to the event. You can be sure we stood out from the crowd.

Tuff_Hedeman-045.jpg

After the riding was over, Cody Canada and the Departed played for the crowd.

Tuff_Hedeman-063.jpg

I loved Cross Canadian Ragweed and was sad to learn of their split. But I really enjoyed the new music they played!

It was a really fun night and I’m so glad we had the chance to go.

Have you ever been to a rodeo? What’s your favorite part?

**Disclaimer** North Texas Chevy Dealers provided four tickets for us to attend this event. We really enjoyed ourselves!

The Pioneer Woman Book Signing: Dallas, Texas

PW 11
Last night, I got to meet one of my favorite bloggers: Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman.
She was in Dallas promoting her new book, Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: A Love Story.
PW 10
Ree first answered some questions from the audience.
She told us that the book had been optioned for a movie and that she’s currently working on her second cookbook.
PW 9
She asked her family to join her on the stage (after the audience requested it!). That’s the infamous Marlboro Man and her four “punks.”
PW 7
I love this photo of Ree and her family. I think it encapsulates her fun, spunky personality.
PW 6
Her oldest daughter, Alex, disagreed.
I can just feel the eye roll from here, can’t you?
Ah, to be young and a teenager.
PW 5
Here’s me and The Nerd. He puts up with me and my insane requests to attend author signings on Valentine’s Day.
PW 4
Just a small sampling of the line. It wrapped around the store.
And then…it was my turn.
PW 3
I gave Ree a copy of Firefly, an awesome sci-fi show that I have raved about more than once on this site.
PW 2
I really think she (and Marlboro Man) will enjoy the western feel of the show. At least I hope so!
She seemed interested…but she was probably just humoring me.
PW 1
We chatted a bit longer as she signed the massive stack of books I put in front of her.
PW and Me
Yay! I *love* her!
 Marlboro Man 2
Marlboro Man even had his own signing line.
It was such a fun night and I’m so glad I had the chance to go!
And, just because I love you guys and couldn’t leave you out, I got a signed copy of each of her books to give away!
There will be two winners in this contest.
Each winner will receive one of the books listed above.

Medieval Times: A Knight to Remember!

Medieval_Times-001.jpg
One of my favorite places in the whole wide world is Medieval Times.
Medieval_Times-002.jpg
I don’t know why, but I love to go see the show there. The Nerd knows my love of knights, jousting and eating with my bare hands, so he treated me to a dinner there for Valentine’s Day.
Medieval_Times-004.jpg
I was *so* excited!
Medieval_Times-009.jpg
I love the look and feel of the castle.
Medieval_Times-007.jpg
And the paper crowns. I’m a big fan of paper crowns.
Medieval_Times-011.jpg
We were cheering for the Green Knight.
Medieval_Times-013.jpg
Everything is color-coordinated.
Medieval_Times-016.jpg
It’s such a great atmosphere.
Medieval_Times-014.jpg
The napkins have all the info you need.
Medieval_Times-015.jpg
Including what’s for dinner.
Don’t expect a great meal, but hey, the chance to eat with your fingers with no societal backlash is worth it.
Medieval_Times-021.jpg
Oh noes! Is that the prince?
Medieval_Times-022.jpg
And who’s that dark stranger?
Something fishy is going on here…
Medieval_Times-023.jpg
Don’t whip the prince!
Medieval_Times-026.jpg
Here are all the squires and servants. I wonder what the going rate for a Medieval Servant is?
Medieval_Times-027.jpg
All hail the KING!
Medieval_Times-029.jpg
Knights in shining armor…
Medieval_Times-030.jpg >

The Princess was really whiney. I guess I’d be too, though, if a cloaked figure stole my husband and whipped him out of the arena.
Medieval_Times-031.jpg
Pretty horses.
Medieval_Times-032.jpg
Ah! The GREEN KNIGHT!
Medieval_Times-034.jpg
He was pretty good in battle.
Medieval_Times-036.jpg
But my favorite part was the jousting!
Medieval_Times-037.jpg
WHACK! BAM! (I feel like I should be in an old-school episode of Batman)
Medieval_Times-042.jpg
But in the end, good always prevails over evil.
It was such a fun night.
And tonight, we’re headed to The Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Dallas. I really do have the best hubby ever!
What are your plans for the day of love?

Snowpocalypse 2011

IMG_0645
This was our house on Friday morning.
We live in TEXAS. It is not supposed to snow like this in TEXAS.
IMG_0655
You couldn’t see the SIDEWALK. You couldn’t find the STREET.
IMG_0665
The Minions had no idea what TO DO in this fluffy white stuff.
IMG_0663
Kaylee kept face-planting in the snow because she’d pull so hard on her leash, trip over the invisible sidewalk and eat it.
IMG_0690
Georgie just suffered through it, as usual.
By Saturday afternoon, much of the snow had melted. Finally. After being SNOWED IN for FOUR DAYS, I was a little stir-crazy.
IMG_0747
And so was The Nerd, apparently.
He decided to make use of the last little bit of snow by hurling snowballs at The Minions.
IMG_0729
Kaylee was unsuspecting at first.
IMG_0734
But not for long. I love that snowball flying through the air!
(Yay 7D!)
Hey, when you’ve been stuck inside due to extreme amounts of ice and snow (Ok, ok, not EXTREME. But SIX INCHES is A LOT OF SNOW in Texas! ESPECIALLY when it falls on a thick layer of ice) it’s the little things that count.
Oh, and guess what? Remember my photography getaway trip?
I’m SUPPOSED to leave on Wednesday. The forecast?
Sigh.
Whatever happened to Global Warming?
