How My Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon Wireless Saved My Job!

September-001 copy

A few weeks ago, I was teaching at a workshop as part of my day job, when we ran into a snag. When we got to the workshop location, we discovered that the Internet wasn’t working.

When you’re planning to demo online software, Internet is kind of essential.

Luckily, I had the Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon Wireless to save the day! I set up a mobile hotspot and gave the info to workshop participants.

We even ran the demo computer from the hotspot. At one point, eight devices were connected!

I was SHOCKED at how well the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network performed under such strenuous conditions. There was no lag, and everyone was able to keep up with the class.

I seriously don’t know what I would have done without it!

Has your cell phone ever saved the day?

Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon Wireless: Such an Awesome Camera!

Samsung Galaxy S III-010.jpg

One of my favorite things about the Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon Wireless is the camera.

Since becoming a Mom, I take more and more photos on my phone. So it’s really important to me that my phone has an awesome camera.

One of the best things about the Galaxy’s camera is that there is no shutter delay. You click the button to take the picture and it immediately takes it, unlike my iPhone, which always pauses before taking the photo. This often results in blurry limbs in my pictures.

Samsung Galaxy S III-013.jpg

The camera has many different options built-in, like HDR mode and a burst mode, so you don’t necessarily need an app to add cool effects to your photos.

Samsung Galaxy S III-011.jpg

This is the Burst Mode. It automatically takes a string of eight consecutive photos. You can even enable the “Best Photo” option and the phone will automatically select the best photo from the burst series.

Another awesome thing is that it allows you to share your photos on Instagram (or other social media sites, including email) right from the camera itself.

Samsung Galaxy S III-007.jpg

How awesome is that? Follow me on Instagram to see the photos I’m taking with my Samsung Galaxy S III — I take A LOT. :)

What feature do you wish your camera phone had?

Samsung Galaxy S III from Verizon Wireless: My First Thoughts

Samsung Galaxy S III-001.jpg

I’m so excited to continue as a Verizon Wireless Ambassador for the next few months. As you know, I love any and all gadgets and the chance to test them out is something that makes my heart happy!

They recently sent me the Samsung Galaxy S III to test, and I have to say: I’m in love. This phone could be the end of my affair with Apple. I wanted to share a couple of my first thoughts with you. I plan to do some more in-depth posts on my favorite features of the phone (the CAMERA — swoon).

Samsung Galaxy S III-002.jpg

Widgets: I really love this phone’s ability to use widgets, along with app icons, on your home screen. As you can see, I have a whole page dedicated to Gmail. This is so great because I don’t have to actually OPEN the app to see if a new message is worth reading. (I get so much spam, you wouldn’t believe).

Samsung Galaxy S III-003.jpg

Home Screen Arrangement: I also love that you can customize the arrangements of apps on your home screen. And that MyVerizon updater keeps track of the amount of data I use…as you can see, I’ve been abusing the unlimited data plan Verizon hooked me up with! blush

Samsung Galaxy S III-004.jpg

Vibration Gestures: Anytime you press and hold on the screen to enable an action, the phone vibrates to let you know that the gesture was received. I LOVE this. So many times, I’ve pressed and pushed and hit my iPhone screen wondering if it will actually work.

Samsung Galaxy S III-009.jpg

Home Screen Organization: It is SO EASY to rearrange home screens on this phone! Earlier today, I spent half an hour moving apps on my iPhone…UGH. Frustration. But with the Samsung Galaxy S III, it is so simple.

Samsung Galaxy S III-006.jpg

Favorites: You can add favorite numbers to your Home Screen so that you can quickly and easily call any of your contacts.

I’m having SO much fun with this phone. Look for MANY more posts to come about its features, along with some tips and tricks I’ve learned since getting it!

Droid RAZR from Verizon Wireless: My favorite apps for kids!

Android Apps-002.jpg

Since I first received the Droid RAZR from Verizon Wireless, it has become an essential tool in my daily life.

No, not because of the super-fast 4GLTE network — even though that is definitely a perk.

Not even because of the awesome wifi hotspot capability — although that’s certainly a plus.

No, the reason I can’t function without the Droid RAZR is because it is now my son’s favorite toy.

Android Apps-003.jpg

You might think it’s a little crazy that a six-month-old can recognize a phone and reach for it. And then throw a fit until Mommy hands it over. I completely agree.

Android Apps-001.jpg

I don’t know when this shift occurred, when Andrew started recognizing that the little black box with a bright fun screen could actually DO things, but he knows.

Plus, the Gorilla Glass is strong enough that IF he drops it, the phone survives. Awesome, right!?

There are a few apps that we use every day that I wanted to share with you.

These apps are lifesavers. They allow me to actually be able to taste my food during dinner, instead of just wolfing it down as quickly as possible. They allow us to ride peacefully in the car on road trips. I can’t count the ways that just five minutes of entertainment has made my life easier.

Toddler Lock

Free in the Google Play Store

This is my #1 favorite app for Andrew. It turns your phone into a fun, colorful screen that chimes and makes other fun sounds. Best of all, it locks your phone so that your child doesn’t accidentally make a call or send a text.

Baby Toy

Free in the Google Play Store

This app is a lot like Todder Lock, except that it shows animals and instruments and even robots. When your child pushes one of the buttons, the animal (or whatever) will make a sound. Again, it locks your phone so they can’t accidentally dial out. Great app!

Trunky Learns Letters

$2.23 in the Google Play Store

A fun, educational app that my niece and nephews adore. It’s a bit old for Andrew, as it functions just like a video game. They love it so much… they sit and play it over and over again.  I highly recommend it!

Kid Musical Toys

Free in the Google Play Store

This is such a fun app! Your kid “plays” musical instruments by tapping the screen or even shaking the phone. It’s so awesome to watch Andrew make noises with this app and then look at the phone like, WHAT was that!?

Netflix

Free in the Google Play Store

If Andrew is getting fussy on a road trip, this is our go-to app. He LOVES the Backyardigans because they sign and dance. It’s so great to use this in conjunction with the Verizon Wireless 4GLTE network… no buffering and the video plays perfectly smooth.

Do you let your child use your phone? What are their favorite apps?

Droid RAZR from Verizon Wireless: Video in HD

The folks from Verizon Wireless challenged us to share our favorite feature from our devices. And while I do love the Xyboard, I have really enjoyed my time with the RAZR the most I think.

One of the things I love the most about it is the camera — it takes great photos and is so convenient to capture the little moments of life. That’s especially important for me with my growing family.

Andrew has gotten so LONG. Earlier this week, I took him to his four-month check-up (he was actually almost five months old, but we’re a bit behind with his immunization schedule because he was sick).

At two months, he was in the 8th percentile in weight. At four months, he’s in the 11th percentile. He’s slowly and steadily gaining weight, and the doctor was really pleased with his progress.

At two months, his head circumference was in the 30th percentile. At four months, it was in the 40th percentile. So he’s growing there, too.

But his length is what was most shocking. At two months, he measured 21.25 inches and was in the 3rd percentile for his age. At four months, he was 25.75 inches and was in the 58th percentile! He grew 4.5 inches in TWO MONTHS! Isn’t that crazy?

I’ve started calling him Bean because he’s such a bean pole.

I should have known that he was getting super long, because his favorite thing to do is to try to kick me in the face. And this is where the RAZR comes in. I just HAD to capture his antics, and the RAZR’s HD video capabilities were the perfect way to do that. What’s even better is that I could upload the video directly to Youtube or Flickr after shooting it. So convenient!

Isn’t he a crazy little kid? LOVE that boy! I don’t know what I’m going to do when he gets even longer!

Verizon Wireless: Getting Started with Android Workshop!

Verizon Workshop-009.jpg

I’ve had the Droid RAZR and Droid XYBOARD for a while now, and have been doing my best to figure out their functionality on my own. I think I’ve done a pretty good job of utilizing their potential, especially coming from iOS devices.

Verizon Workshop-006.jpg

But when Verizon Wireless challenged me to attend one of their in-store workshops on getting the most out of your Android device, I gladly accepted. I signed up for the Getting Started with Android Workshop at a local store, and prepared myself for a two-hour lecture on things I thought I already knew.

Boy was I ever wrong.

Verizon Workshop-001.jpg

Our instructor, Brianna, was very knowledgable. She took time to answer questions as we went along. We started by discussing the Google Android Operating System and how it is Open Source, unlike Apple’s iOS. Brianna shared the benefits of that, along with the drawbacks (like how ANYONE can develop an App, so you have to be careful what you download).

Verizon Workshop-004.jpg

She then walked us through the different gestures associated with using a touch-screen Smart phone. There were several attendees in the class who said this was their first Smart phone.

Verizon Workshop-002.jpg

We learned how to utilize Android’s AWESOME voice dial and text-to-speech functionality. That in itself deserves its own post.

We also learned how to set up speed dial, walked through the Phone icon on our devices, discussed text messaging and even explored the Google Play Store to download some free apps. Brianna recommended the Zedge app to download and personalize free ringtones.

Verizon Workshop-005.jpg

While the class was very basic and I already knew how to do a lot of the things we discussed, there were several new things I learned!

Did you know you can set up a contact in the Droid RAZR that will go directly to Voicemail any time they call? It will never even ring! Never take those annoying calls again!

You can also send a picture slideshow in a text message. How cool is that?

I would highly recommend the classes for all skill levels… the class covered a range of topics that would be helpful and interested to anyone with a Smart phone!

And I had such a great time and learned so much that I signed up to attend another Verizon Wireless Workshop next weekend on using the iPad for Business! I’m really excited for that one.

Do you have a Verizon Wireless device you’d like to learn how to use? Attend a workshop! They offer classes in retail stores and online! Visit the Verizon Wireless Workshops website for more info and to sign up for a class!

Droid Xyboard 8.2 from Verizon Wireless: Perfect for a Lazy Weekend!

Xyboard-003.jpg

On Friday, this super-fun box arrived on my doorstep: A Droid XYBOARD 8.2 from Verizon Wireless!

I’ve already been testing the Verizon Wireless network and Android operating system on the Droid RAZR. But I was really excited to get to try the 4G LTE on a tablet.

Xyboard-004.jpg

I own a first-generation iPad, and was anxious to compare it to the XYBOARD. Surprisingly, the XYBOARD didn’t disappoint! I thought I wouldn’t like the size (it’s smaller than the iPad), but it is a refreshing change from the heft of the Apple device.

Xyboard-006.jpg

On Saturday, I took the XYBOARD into the kitchen to use it as a recipe viewer. It was easy to handle one-handed while pouring melted chocolate.

Yesterday, I spent the day lounging with Andrew. As he slept on me, it was AWESOME to be able to browse the Internet, check Twitter and Facebook and search Pinterest all on the XYBOARD. And the 4G LTE is FAST. Oh my goodness. It is AWESOME!

I’ll be sharing some more of my experiences with the XYBOARD, but I wanted to share an awesome opportunity with you today! You can win 2 Droid XYBOARD 8.2 by Motorola Tablets per day from now until March 11! Awesome, right?
